Investing for income and growth
Client profile
Age: Couple aged 68 and 66
Occupation: Retired
Requirement: Our clients wanted a firm they could trust for their financial planning needs.
Importantly for our clients, we have minimised income tax, reduced their exposure to capital gains tax and have helped them mitigate the liability to inheritance tax on their estate.
Our clients had a substantial portfolio of assets invested across shares, unit trusts, pensions, ISAs and investment bonds. They had also built up a significant number of shares in their employer’s share save scheme.
Their objective was to achieve an amount of regular income in retirement that could be varied according to their changing circumstances. They appreciated that current low levels of interest rates paid on deposit could not achieve their desired outcome.
Keeping track of all their investments, which amounted to a large number of holdings, was becoming unwieldy. We provided the couple with access to a more effective means of managing their assets via a secure web-based service. This means our clients can now view their assets and liabilities in one place.
Paperwork is minimised and, more importantly for our clients, we have minimised income tax, reduced their exposure to capital gains tax and have helped them mitigate the liability to inheritance tax on their estate. Ongoing exposure to taxes is managed efficiently and where necessary we have liaised with the client’s accountant.
We provide regular reviews with high quality reporting on the new portfolio, constructed using risk profiling methodology, including a full discussion of the level of financial risk they are prepared to accept – or not.
Our clients now also benefit from lower management costs by aggregating their family assets.
